Alexandria, Va. – The Alexandria Political Action Committee for Education (APACE) announced yesterday their endorsement of Democratic nominee Canek Aguirre for Alexandria City Council. APACE is the political action arm of the Education Association of Alexandria, which represents the majority of teachers and educational support professionals in the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS).
“I am honored to have received the endorsement of the Education Association of Alexandria. As a former ACPS employee and the son of a retired public school teacher, I am committed to ensuring our students, teachers and families have the needed resources so that every student can reach their potential,” said Aguirre. “If elected, I will continue to support efforts to increase equity, opportunity, and safety in our schools.”
Aguirre spent three years connecting ACPS students and parents with resources to succeed inside and outside the classroom. Before being promoted to help start the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Center in 2012, he served as the parent liaison at George Washington Middle School.
On July 6, Aguirre discussed his campaign and the challenges facing Alexandria City Public Schools on WAMU 88.5’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show. Click here to listen or watch the interview.
