Alexandria, Va. – Today, the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia (DLOV) announced their endorsement of Democratic nominee Canek Aguirre for Alexandria City Council. DLOV is a political committee that fosters participation of Latinos with the Democratic Party and supports candidates who embrace policies that benefit the Latino community in Virginia.
“Canek is an example of actions speaking louder than words. His commitment to the community, to working families and to guaranteeing access to care, speaks for itself. We are proud to support him for a diverse and inclusive City of Alexandria,” said Monique Alcala, Chair of DLOV.
“As the son of Mexican immigrants, I am proud to be endorsed by the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia,” said Aguirre. “I believe government should reflect the diversity and the values of its people, and I look forward to continuing to work with DLOV to ensure the voices and concerns of the Latino community and all Alexandrians are at the table during the decision-making process.”
From his experience working across Northern Virginia with underserved communities to serving in leadership roles on numerous boards and commissions, Aguirre is committed to addressing Alexandria’s affordable housing crisis, investing in our public schools to ensure every student and teacher succeeds, and eliminating health inequities to improve health outcomes for all Alexandrians.
If elected this November, Aguirre would be the first Latino to ever serve on Alexandria City Council.
